Data: 13.12.2023

On 12th December 2023, Baltic Operator inaugurated the patrol vessel (OPV) project with the first steel cutting ceremony in Gdansk.

Present at the ceremony were customer representatives from Meyer Turku and The Finnish Border Guard, as well as representatives from the GPBaltic and Baltic Operator.

Baltic Operator, a company of the GPBaltic to which Gdansk Shipyard belongs, has signed a contract with Meyer Turku shipyard to build two partially equipped Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) for the Finnish Border Guard in December 2022. The scope of work commissioned to Baltic Operator includes the production of two 98-metre-long, 17.6-metre-wide partially equipped hulls. The total weight of the structure produced by Baltic Operator will exceed 5,500 tonnes.

The first vessel is expected to be ready in 2025 and the second in 2026. These vessels, with a draught of 5 metres, will eventually patrol the waters along Finland’s 4,600-kilometre irregular coastline, dotted with islands.

It is worth mentioning that Baltic Operator also supplies large passenger ferry blocks to the aforementioned Finnish shipyard.
